Marcus Cocceius Nerva, born Nov 8 A.D. 30. Nerva distinguished himself as a lawyer and was consul twice before ascending the throne. While he reigned only one year four months before his death by natural causes he did much to improve the empire. Because he was not popular with the army, he adopted Trajan, who was. Trajan succeeded to the empire upon the death of Nerva on Jan 25th, A.D. 98.
