This example of the first year of issue for the Peace Dollar exhibits a strong strike and die state as seen in the ear hair and eagle feathers, additionally it has a nice even peach tone overall. I looked at very many of these over the years before I settled for this MS64. Going a higher grade for an example that has these characteristics would triple the market value. The photo is unable to match the beauty of this coin in hand.
When designing the famous "Peace" dollar, sculptor Anthony de Francisci used his own wife, Teresa Cafarelli de Francisci, as a model. Anthony, along with seven other sculptors, participated in a competition to design a new dollar coin and won the prize of $1,500 (the other contestants received consolation prizes of $100 each).
