The Congo Free State was the personal property of King Leopold II of Belgium until 1908 when it was annexed by the Kingdom of Belgium. The Free State issued coins in denominations of 1 centime, 2 centimes, 5 centimes, 10 centimes, 50 centimes, 1 Franc, 2 Francs, and 5 Francs. Most are quite common though their mintages are relatively small. This 1 centime is a two year type coin with a total mintage released at 55,000.
