This is from the famous seafaring and trading city-state of Aigina, an island midway between Attica and the coastline of Argolis. This was probably the first place in European Greece to issue coinage and their didrachm-stater was used for a long time & over a wide area.
This example seems to come from a later period of decline. It conforms to Sear 1857 as an AR Stater from 490-485 B.C.; it weighs 12 gm & is 21 mm at the widest. This is a smooth shelled sea turtle that appears to have never had the dots of the earlier coinage, but does have a couple of countermarks. The reverse shows an incuse square of a 'proto-skew' pattern that has some wedge-shaped dividing lines. Price & Wagoner 514, David Sear S1857.
