David Hartill says this about the history of the period: The Dowager Empress Cixi finally died in November 1908, the day after the death of Guangxu. Her three-year old nephew, Puyi, succeeded to the throne, under the regency of his father, the second Prince of Qun. His reign was not long. On the 12th of February 1912, the formal abdication of the throne in favor of the republican revolutionaries of Sun Yat-sen was announced and the Qing Dynasty (Manchu, 1644 - 1912) came to an end. The Board of Revenue mint still cast a few cash style in the traditional manner. They did circulate in remote areas for a long time, particularly in Indonesia.
