A very nice example of a Antoninianus (double denarius) usually found in crudely struck condition. I have another Victoria Germania issue here in the Museum of a different type an on a bronze flan. Van Meter states this type celebrates the victory over the Carpi tribe in Dacia in 257 A.D. RSC IV #1173 type w/ dif. Ob. legend; RIC 252. Roman Imp Coins (van Meter) RIC 323
Obverse: "IMP GALLIENVS AVG", radiate bust cuirassed r. RX: "VICTORIA GERMAN", Victory standing r. , holding palm, presenting wreath to Gallienus, in military dress, standing l. holding globe and sceptre (or spear). Nice strike and large silver planchet. 3.53 g. & 23 mm.
