Description: The Union was formed in 1910 the Cape Colony, Natal Colony, Transvaal, and Orange River Colony. It included the territories that were formerly a part of the ZAR and the Orange Free State. It was superseded by the founding of the Republic in 1961.

Description: These tokens were used in East Griqualand (later the Transkei homeland) until 1932. This example is of the "New" variety, the last of the series. All of the tokens were holed at 12 o'clock. "The Strachan & Co tokens were minted in Europe, and first issued in 1874. The most sought after and best researched South African trade token. There are only 60 full sets known to exist in the world. Over 20,000 coins were counted in 1980 when research on these tokens was first undertaken in Umzimkulu by Scott Balson."

Description: ZAR (Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek, aka Transvaal) was one of the Boer republics that were later forcibility incorporated into the Union of South Africa. ZAR issued coins in denominations of 1d, 3d. 6g. 1/-, 2/-, 2/6d, 5 /-, £½, and £1 (the 1d in bronze, the other up tp 5/- in silver, and the latter two in gold). Coinage was minted from 1892 to 1900

Description: Greenland was discovered in 976 by a group of Norsemen led by Eric the Red who had been exiled from Iceland. Three settlements were established on the southern coast. These remained until the Ice Age came in and they were no longer able to sustain themselves. Official coinage for the island commenced in 1926 through 1964. There were a number of tokens issued by private companies from the mid 19th century well into the 20th century. This is an example of general coinage, a 25 øre minted in 1926. These were holed in the USA to 1941 to distinguish them from the 1 Krone coin.

Description: The islands were settled by Greeks. It was under Roman, Byzantine, Venetian, French, and British rile in its history. After the Napoleonic Wars, ownership was ceded to Britain who controlled the islands until 1862 when it was ceded to Greece. Early modern coinage was issued in 1801 by a short-lived republic. Britain issued coins from 1819 to 1862. This is a thirty lepta coin minted in 1857.

Description: Crete was home to the ancient Minoan culture. It is believed that the culture was destroyed by a massive earthquake and tidal wave in Thera on the island of Santorini about 1600 BC. Crete was ruled by the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, and finally by the Ottomans. Numerous uprisings against the Ottomans finally was solved in 1897 by the western powers who established a Cretan State. Prince George of Greece was selected to lead the new State. In 1913 it was transferred to Greece. This is one of the coins issued for the State, a 5 Drachma coin dated 1901.

The only coinage was produced in 1941 by the British who occupied the islands while Denmark was under German rule. This is a 25 øre coin from that period. These coins are similar to the Danish coins of the time but lack the mint officials and moneyer's initials.

Description: The Danish West India Guinea Company annexed the islands of Saint Thomas and St. John in in 1672 and 1718. The island of Saint Croix was purchased from the French West India Company in 1733. The Danish company went bankrupt in 1754 and the King of Denmark–Norway took possession. The USA purchased the islands in 1917 for $25M. They are now known as the U.S. Virgin Islands. Coinage for the islands started in 1740 and continued through 1917. Coinage used the Danish standard through 1848 and adopted decimal coinage in 1859. This one is a ten skilling piece minted in 1848.

In 1999, it was returned to China a as a Special Administrative Region which permits a large degree of autonomy.
